Update on my Crummo Immune System

So I went to the Dr and I am vit D deficient as well as glucose intolerant stillllllll:/ grrrrr A1C was high. Natural remedies? Ideas? I eat so healthy(almost no processed food), work out, am currently nursing, bmi is in perfect range(low side of normal....5'5" tall and weigh 121) but my immune system sucks and I have some peripheral nerve damage in my hands and face and some bouts of pretty icky insomnia. They told me just stop eating sugar and take 1000 IU of D3 daily and try to get 20 mins of sunshine daily at midday. I have already been taking 600IU of vit D3 daily so I guess I will add 400IUs. As for stop eating sugar, wellllllll yea I dont, and not only do I rarely ever touch a cookie, cake or candy, I rarely eat bread, white rice, etc. We eat a lot of quinoa, beans, lentils, nuts, cheese, milk, eggs, veggies galore, 1-2 peices of fruit a day if that and usually oranges lately. Ahhhh well praying summer hurries so obtaining sunlight will be easier. **sigh

Hey Janis!

Random question. Didn't you say you had anxiety issues in past? I only ask because you sound like me a little before my anxiety got bad. I lost alot of weight during breastfeeding (was 121 at 5'6''), chronically sick, tummy issues, numbness, etc. It sounds to me like you might be exp some of those esp the nerve damage which I thought I had only to find out anxiety ha ha and it made my hads, feet, face numb feeling. Anyway just a thought. I was so low in weight, anxiety was raging and didnt know it that it actually mad me have glucose issues IE I could eat something processed which would normally make it spike and 30 min after eatung this full meal my blood sugar was 45. The anxiety is what does that. I would look into it maybe? Please dont take this wrong Id just hate not say a thing and have someone go through what I did. The low weight, sickness, glucose issue drove me into panic attacks.

FandCmom, what was the treatment for you? As for blood sugar, mines chronically high so I dunno. I have taken anxiety meds 2.5 years ago for a short while(buspirone for several weeks) and it reset the panic attacks and I have rarely had one here or there since that. I will keep this in mind though. I gotta get my D levels back up and hopefully the weird symptoms and immune function return to normal! I am glad you got your health stuff figured out, sometimes it can be so daunting

Janis,

Treatment was/is for me Zoloft 50 mg, xanax per need (for me ONLY when I air travel or am HIGHLY anxious so Id say maybe 1 a month if that). I mainly have those for IF I panic. And most imp cognitive therapy. I have the Midwest Stress program and see my therapist 1 time a month. We woth on heiarchy of exposure and I do the work between sessions.

For me my anxiety was stress, eating, weight. It was ALL related. My glucose would go super high and then plummet so fast. My BP was off, chronic tummy issues, etc. It came on slowly and I didnt notice the symptoms till I had my first panic attack. Your anxiety was probably different. I have what is known as Panic Disorder. The fear of the one panic attack is so ingrained that I now fear anxiety will cause another. Vicious cycle but working on it bc who DOESNT have anxiety?. I feel SO much better on the Zoloft though. Plan of 2 years and then off:) Busirone is not as effective in the treatment of anxiety as the SSRI etc BUT works well for some people. I jst wasnt one ha ha:)

The pesky side is I have gained weight. Doctor thinks because I am not anxious. When I was anxious my body was literally eating itself. I was a 0/2 and at 5'6'' 0/2 kinda looks funny. Now I am 132 (though trying lose a few) and in a 4

I make green drinks constantly (I typically live on them when I can keep enough produce in the house, but you would probably need other things too with nursing).

Blend spinach, bananas, strawberries, radishes, kale, flax oil in the blender. I hadn't been sick in forever and overcame the sickness my kids were passing around (I'm a nanny) continually. I noticed a huge difference when I ran out of spinach and stopped making them--I'm currently fighting a cold.

My husband and I love making them, and you can make them for the kiddos, too-- just ease them into the greens!

Hope you're feeling better soon.

You need to have vitamin A with the D to be able to utilize it. I can not say enough about taking a high quality cod-liver oil (like the ones sold by Green Pastures). It is a little pricey, but worth it IME. Just that one change has made such a world of difference in my mood stability and immunity over the last 2 years. I've also had good experience with Nordic Naturals Arctic-D (but not their other ones) and I saw one called Garden of Life which looked pretty good, but I haven't done a lot of research on it yet. I saw it at Henry's FM when I was down visiting my grandma who lives out your way, the price was really good!

Have you ever had your Vitamin B12 checked? If you have any sort of stomach related/diabetic type issues, I would highly recommend getting it checked. B12 deficiency or even a low B12 can give psychiatric as well as some neuropathy/nerve problems. I went through these problems after taking Protonix (a proton pump inhibitor) for heartburn/stomach issues after last one. Turns out, the medicine made it hard for me to absorb B12 so rather than an oral supplement I had to get the shots. Hope this helps. You can have B12 deficiency OR you could maybe have pernicious anemia. Good luck.

try eating a boost of berries and oranges, they are a natural way to boost the ole immune system and increase your zinc...it also helps ward off colds better and faster..
Best Wishes and hope you feel better!
